Barry M Nail Paint Shades [Winter 2015]

With British beauty brand as my go-to destination for nails I always rely on their products when decorating my digits. As all of the Barry M Nail Paints are great quality and available for under £5 it makes them so easy to add to my ever-growing polish collection. As I have a few favourites, I've rounded up the 5 shades I love to wear during the festive season here.

Nail Paints left to right: in Espresso (£3.99) | Glitter in Gold (limited edition) | Jewel Glitter in Yellow Topaz (£2.99) | Hi Shine in Blueberry (£3.99) | Hi Shine in Cocoa (£3.99)

I love mixing black and gold tones this time of year so the matte black and glittery gold nail paints here are essential for me. I love the opaque glittery gold shade most and this polish makes it easy to add a little sparkle to my talons. It's a shame it's a limited edition as I'd definitely pick up another (I received it free after spending a certain amount on Barry M in Boots). The jewel speckled glitter polish has a transparent base so your natural nail is partially visible after adding a coat or two. However, it's perfect for layering over other shades to make them a little more festive. I also like to paint a little of this just over the tips of my nails for a effortless mani.

As a break from the typical black, grey and navy tones I tend to wear during this season I'll opt for the icy Blueberry or Cocoa brown shades. Both are from the Gelly Hi Shine range which gives a beautifully glossy finish. Whereas Cocoa is matched easily with most of my casual attire, Blueberry tends to be reserved for when I want a pop of colour when I'm dressed in all black or monochrome outfits.

I definitely have a few more Barry M favourites which I could have added to this post and I've got my eye on a few from the Collection to buy next!

Have you tried Barry M products?

Top 5 Autumn/Fall 2015 Nail Shades

I love nail polish but it rarely makes it on to my fingernails as I don't like the slightest smudging or chipping which can occur after a couple of days of wear. I've recently discovered nail wraps (see ) but I still wear polish on my toes often as I'm less worried about the polish staying 'perfect'. With the change in season it's these tones I've been relying on the most.

From left to right - Colour Carnival Nail Polish in Red (023), Max Effect Mini Nail Polish in Intense Plum (24), Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Plum (248), Lasting Finish Polish in Block Your Green (700) and Quick Dry Nail Lacquer in Taupe Brown (816).

Rich tones are usually my go-to for this time of year. Deep plums, purples and earthy browns are typically my favourite colours to wear but I've been loving wearing emerald green recently too. I haven't bought new nail shades in a while as I'm trying to minimise my nail polish collection so these are tried and tested favourites. All of them are easy to apply, last fairly well and are opaque with two coats.

What nail shades do you like to wear this time of year?

Haul | Autumn 2014

Despite all my pouting over the end of summer I've begrudgingly accepted that it's autumn and with that cue shorter hours of daylight and a significant drop in temperature. Seriously though, why is it so grey and gloomy already?
I've already cleansed my wardrobe of summer clothes in favour of knits and denim. In the same vein I've made a few season-related purchases too - it's hard not to with every high street shop in autumn/winter mode since August. I've not gone too crazy, just a few new pieces to make that transition...

Black Rolled Brim Bowler Hat
I'm not sure if the shape of my face or the fact that I wear my hair up a lot but I always end up avoiding buying hats. I thought it was time I at least got one hat this autumn as I often feel like my outfit needs an extra something. Though fedora's have been popular this summer, I thought a bowler hat was probably more 'me' and would work more with my outfits in the autumn.

MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Double Shot
This is my second ever MAC lipstick which I purchased along with . My lips are naturally dark brown so this lipstick is only a touch darker than a 'nude' shade for me. I love the texture which glides on smoothly and stays put for much longer than some of my favourite drugstore lippies.

Dark Green Check Bodycon Dress
Check and tartan patterns are my favourite trend for this season and this dress makes putting a casual outfit together effortless. I've mostly been wearing this dress with black platform boots and a duster coat. I'm slowly adding more pieces to my wardrobe which 'hug' (rather than drape over) my figure and this dress is surprisingly flattering.

in Espresso & Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Cocoa
I love the new shades of 'Gelly' nail effects from Barry M for this season, which are the kind of hues you'd expect to see in autumn. It was hard to choose between their mustard yellow, deep orange and chilli red nail polishes but I eventually restrained my purchase to this chocolate brown (Cocoa) which looks so gorgeous on. I tend to wear a lot of dark attire this time of year so I picked up this black matte nail paint as it was one of the few shades I don't have already which will suit most of my autumn wardrobe.

I don't think I've ever posted a picture of myself wearing my specs on this blog, partly because I live in contact lenses and also as I've never found glasses that actually suit me. I've always loved the look of tortoiseshell glasses but always resigned to buying thick square black frames as I assumed these would compliment my face shape the most. FYI the ones I own don't, but I rarely wear my glasses out of the house anyway so finally took a punt on a style I wouldn't usually go for. I love these enough to actually wear them in public.

Have you made any autumn-related purchases recently?

FOTD | The Bright Lip

I haven't done a makeup look in a long time and that's because I rarely change my makeup routine. I usually apply a different lipstick and that's about it. Most of the lipsticks I own are pretty safe tones ranging from pink to brown but I do have a few which push me out of my comfort zone, like the lipstick I'm wearing here. I bought this Barry M Lip Paint (151) quite some time ago but I've barely worn it probably as I've never felt like I could pull this look off.

That said, this lipstick is the perfect stand-out lip for summer but as it is so bright I kept the rest of my makeup very simple here. I applied a small amount of foundation to my skin and used a little NC42 concealer from MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette in Medium Deep for dark spots on my face. I then used the burnt coral shade from the MAC palette on the apples of my cheeks. I followed my usual routine for my brows and set them in place with a little Gimme Brow. I kept makeup on my eyes minimal, opting for just a little Thick & Fast mascara. I wanted a slight glow so highlighted my face with the brightest shade from Sleek Makeup Glo. I finished off by dusting some Ben Nye Banana Powder on my T-zone.

1 Sleek Makeup Glo in Bronze Baby | 2 Ben Nye Banana Powder | 3 Sleek Makeup Brow Kit in Dark | 4 MAC Pro Conceal Palette in Medium Deep | 5 MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42 | 6 Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium Deep | 7 Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara | 8 Barry M Lip Paint in 151

NOTD | Barry M Nail Paint Mushroom

I've been on the hunt lately for the perfect brown nude shade and I may have finally found it.

The polish is Nail Paint in Mushroom (310). I think half of my talon stash is Barry M as I love their selection of different colours and effects for a very reasonable price. I bought 'Mushroom' the other day which is like a rich taupe. I love love love muted tones and this seems to go with most of my outfits given that my wardrobe is lacking much colour currently.

What nail polish have you tried lately?
