FOTN | Red Lips & Winged Liner

I've been wearing the same red lip and black eye liner combo for years. This is always my go-to look when going out and it may not be very adventurous, but it suits such a range of occasions I rarely stray from it.

I tend to prefer darker red lipsticks over orange-y or pink-red tones and this shade is from the L'Oreal Paris Color Riche collection. I don't own a lot of L'Oreal Paris makeup, but I've increasingly picked up more and more Color Riche shades as there's a great range of colours to suit different skintones.

I usually prefer bronzed cheeks with red lips but I was kind of in auto-pilot mode when doing my makeup and applied this everyday coral GOSH blush from my bronzing pie without thinking. This blush is super pigmented so I just went with it but I don't mind the result.

FOTD | Valentines Soft Pink Makeup

Valentine's Day for me isn't usually a huge affair. Most times it's low-key, whether it's a night out with the girls or a quiet dinner out with the boyfriend. That said, in general I tend to switch up my makeup. In my eagerness for Spring to start I've been reaching for all things pink recently and as a result I've decided not to opt for a classic red lip this Valentines in favour of a rosy hue.

I don't know what it is about pink lipsticks but my makeup collection is littered with them. It is without doubt my favourite shade to wear but weirdly my lip colour in this makeup look was achieved from mixing two non-pink tones together - a nude and a glossy red. The resulting soft creamy pink colour was discovered by accident. I previously tried to make my nude Sleek Makeup lipstick look well, less nude, so in a hurry swiped one of my KIKO Glossy Stylos straight over the top. I love the result and now it's one of my favourite combos to wear on my lips.

I thought V-Day would also be another excuse to reach for my which has been a little neglected of late. Generally if I wear eyeshadow it's usually neutral or natural colours but I love the soft feminine looks you can get with only a little pink added to the lids. For my eyes I used the matte dusky pinks in the palette as a base - Limit and Nooner - then swiped a little of Liar to add a little shimmer at the inner corners of my eyes. I finished with winged out liner for a cat eye effect and lashings of mascara.

A tiny sidenote but just incase you're wondering about my hair in these shots, though I've been itching to cut my hair short for the past year I'm wearing a wig here. I bought it to give my hair a break and to stop myself drastically cutting my hair. I was planning to wear this wig on Valentine's Day but I haven't worn it out of the house yet. I haven't really changed my hair in a long time so I think I've been worried too much about what friends, family and colleagues will think about me suddenly rocking a wig. I'm also so clueless on how to style my mass of hair underneath (which won't lye flat), how to get a natural looking part and all that jazz. I'm hoping YouTube will help me figure it all out eventually.

FOTN | New Years Eve Makeup Look

New Year's Eve is almost here and, scarily, 2015 is just around the corner. My New Year's Eve is going to be pretty low-key but I plan to add a little glamour with my makeup. I got the Smashbox On The Rocks Palette (£29) for Christmas - it's a limited edition palette with 12 of their Photo Op Eye Shadows.

I've loved wearing a lot of green hues this season so naturally I was drawn towards the 'Midnight Emerald' shade from this palette and it's the main feature of this look. Green can seem like a scary shade to wear but I think it can suit such a wide variety of skintones and it works so beautifully with brown eyes. Applying eyeshadow is not my forte so I stuck to keeping it simple so this look is easy to duplicate. I kept the rest of my makeup muted, opting for a nude (ish) brown lipstick which only softly veils my natural lip colour. I then dabbed some brown shimmery gloss over the top to add a little more glitter.

FOTD | The Bright Lip

I haven't done a makeup look in a long time and that's because I rarely change my makeup routine. I usually apply a different lipstick and that's about it. Most of the lipsticks I own are pretty safe tones ranging from pink to brown but I do have a few which push me out of my comfort zone, like the lipstick I'm wearing here. I bought this Barry M Lip Paint (151) quite some time ago but I've barely worn it probably as I've never felt like I could pull this look off.

That said, this lipstick is the perfect stand-out lip for summer but as it is so bright I kept the rest of my makeup very simple here. I applied a small amount of foundation to my skin and used a little NC42 concealer from MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette in Medium Deep for dark spots on my face. I then used the burnt coral shade from the MAC palette on the apples of my cheeks. I followed my usual routine for my brows and set them in place with a little Gimme Brow. I kept makeup on my eyes minimal, opting for just a little Thick & Fast mascara. I wanted a slight glow so highlighted my face with the brightest shade from Sleek Makeup Glo. I finished off by dusting some Ben Nye Banana Powder on my T-zone.

Review | Ben Nye Banana Powder

I bought Ben Nye Luxury Loose Powder in Banana (£7.50) back in July last year after reading a lot of reviews raving about how good this stuff is. I have to admit that when I first tried it I was left a little underwhelmed. I think I was expecting a lot more because I'd read so many good reviews. That said, the powder has been a staple in my daily makeup routine for the below reasons.

If you don't what it is already, it's a yellow coloured face powder. I've always preferred to use colour correcting products as a lot of drugstore makeup can leave my skin with a hideous pink cast. This powder sets my makeup perfectly for a matte finish and despite the colour it doesn't actually leave your skin looking yellow. The finish is translucent and brightens the skintone which makes it especially effective in the under eye area.

I bought the small size which is 1.5oz/42g and I can't believe how long this has lasted considering I've been using the product every day for 7 months! It's a cliche, as it's often said when describing beauty products, but a little really does go a long way. I only use a couple of swipes of the powder to rid my face of any oiliness.

Another positive about this product is it's actually not that expensive, given how long it lasts. I paid £7.50 from the  for the smaller size.

I have to admit this product can be hard to get hold of. I found it through a Google search and the first places I found didn't have the powder in stock. My first order of this from the Guru Makeup Emporium was cancelled as the product had gone out of stock and it wasn't available again until a month later.

The packaging can make the product a bit hard to use as it makes a lot of mess but I get around that by decanting some of the product into a smaller pot with a sifter which I can carry around in my makeup bag.

All in all this is a great product and when it does finally run out I would definitely buy it again.

Have you tried any Ben Nye products?
