FOTD | Valentine's Beauty

When it comes to Valentine's Day beauty my makeup is pretty straightforward. A bright lip feels most natural and I usually dress up my eyes with a little winged liner. Here I've added a swipe of shadow too. Granted this is far more 'overdone' for what will probably be an evening in with the other half and a takeaway, V-Day does fall on a Sunday this year after all. I couldn't not do a classic V-Day makeup look though so here's what I would wear.

This lipstick from the L'Oreal Color Riche range is a new addition to my makeup collection. The colour straddles red and pink and it's a welcome change from the plethora of pillar box red lipsticks I have already. It's gorgeously pigmented and whilst it is supposed to be matte it has a slight sheen to it and I don't find it drying.

I'm still a complete novice when it comes to applying eyeshadow no matter how many YouTube tutorials I watch, so I kept my eyes pretty simple. I used a mix of Iman Luxury Eye Shadow in Tiger Eye* (from  and Ted Baker Eyeshadow from their  set. As it's Winter I have to rely on usual indoor lighting and as I was standing right underneath my ceiling light the tones of the eyeshadows don't 'pop' as much in the photos as they do in real life. I really love these eyeshadows though and they complement each other perfectly.

I've been missing my long hair a lot lately so will occasionally live vicariously through extensions. Here I'm wearing  bundles I bought from  months ago. I just wrapped the tracks around the base of my ponytail and secured with a few bobby pins. I initially planned to make these bundles into clip-in extensions but the individual tracks are pretty thin so I've now made a u-part wig out of the hair. The curls are gorgeous, though looser than my hair texture, and blending them together is almost seamless. You can expect a few more snaps of me wearing this hair soon.

FOTD | Valentines Soft Pink Makeup

Valentine's Day for me isn't usually a huge affair. Most times it's low-key, whether it's a night out with the girls or a quiet dinner out with the boyfriend. That said, in general I tend to switch up my makeup. In my eagerness for Spring to start I've been reaching for all things pink recently and as a result I've decided not to opt for a classic red lip this Valentines in favour of a rosy hue.

I don't know what it is about pink lipsticks but my makeup collection is littered with them. It is without doubt my favourite shade to wear but weirdly my lip colour in this makeup look was achieved from mixing two non-pink tones together - a nude and a glossy red. The resulting soft creamy pink colour was discovered by accident. I previously tried to make my nude Sleek Makeup lipstick look well, less nude, so in a hurry swiped one of my KIKO Glossy Stylos straight over the top. I love the result and now it's one of my favourite combos to wear on my lips.

I thought V-Day would also be another excuse to reach for my which has been a little neglected of late. Generally if I wear eyeshadow it's usually neutral or natural colours but I love the soft feminine looks you can get with only a little pink added to the lids. For my eyes I used the matte dusky pinks in the palette as a base - Limit and Nooner - then swiped a little of Liar to add a little shimmer at the inner corners of my eyes. I finished with winged out liner for a cat eye effect and lashings of mascara.

A tiny sidenote but just incase you're wondering about my hair in these shots, though I've been itching to cut my hair short for the past year I'm wearing a wig here. I bought it to give my hair a break and to stop myself drastically cutting my hair. I was planning to wear this wig on Valentine's Day but I haven't worn it out of the house yet. I haven't really changed my hair in a long time so I think I've been worried too much about what friends, family and colleagues will think about me suddenly rocking a wig. I'm also so clueless on how to style my mass of hair underneath (which won't lye flat), how to get a natural looking part and all that jazz. I'm hoping YouTube will help me figure it all out eventually.

How do you like to wear your makeup on Valentine's Day?

FOTN | New Years Eve Makeup Look

New Year's Eve is almost here and, scarily, 2015 is just around the corner. My New Year's Eve is going to be pretty low-key but I plan to add a little glamour with my makeup. I got the Smashbox On The Rocks Palette (£29) for Christmas - it's a limited edition palette with 12 of their Photo Op Eye Shadows.

I've loved wearing a lot of green hues this season so naturally I was drawn towards the 'Midnight Emerald' shade from this palette and it's the main feature of this look. Green can seem like a scary shade to wear but I think it can suit such a wide variety of skintones and it works so beautifully with brown eyes. Applying eyeshadow is not my forte so I stuck to keeping it simple so this look is easy to duplicate. I kept the rest of my makeup muted, opting for a nude (ish) brown lipstick which only softly veils my natural lip colour. I then dabbed some brown shimmery gloss over the top to add a little more glitter.
