NOTD | Rimmel Manchester I Love Lasting Finish Polish

I've not been wearing a lot of nail polish lately, and when I have the shades have been dark and autumnal. I decided to switch it up this week with this in Get It While It's Hot £2.99 which I picked up from .

It's a tanned nude which works perfectly for my skintone. It's quite a summery shade but I couldn't resist as I love a good nude nail polish. It took 2-3 coats to get the finish completely opaque and, whilst I'm usually too impatient to take the time to apply this many coats, the result made it worthwhile.

I did chip the corner of one nail after two days unfortunately but I forgot to apply a top coat to make the polish last longer. Next time I'll try this shade with a glitter topcoat or gold tips to prevent any chips and give my mani a festive twist.

Overall, it's a great colour and a great price so it's a winner for me.

NOTD | Topshop Matte Nails in Easy Peasy

I picked up this Matte Nail Polish in Easy Peasy (£6) the other week from their Oxford Street store and I love how it looks on. I've never really been a fan of matte nails and it was hard to resist putting my usual shiny topcoat on these but I've really warmed to the flat finish.

If you've ever been to the Topshop store in Oxford Street Manchester, you'll know there's huge selection of nail colours. I'm not sure what made me pick up this dusty grey amongst the shelves of glittery, bright and metallic shades but I was just drawn to it. I've mentioned a few times on my blog that I prefer more muted tones, though I am trying to be a little more adventurous in general with my style. That doesn't mean I'll stop wearing what I love most though and this nail polish suits me to a tee.

What have you been wearing on your nails recently?

NOTD | Ciate Caviar Polish by Marie Claire

I love a magazine freebie, especially of the nail polish variety, and I was excited to see this Ciate Manchester Caviar Manicure Mini duo included with this months Marie Claire UK (July 2014 edition).

There were several different colours included with the July issue, though admittedly stock was limited to the Sugar Plum nail colour and Ice Queen Caviar (pictured above) at my local Asda. The magazine was reduced to £2.50 so I can only assume that's what led the stand to look a little bare by the time I had got to it.

I've never tried this brand before or a caviar type of polish. The 'caviar pearls' (which are tiny coloured beads) put an interesting twist on my usual mani. I did imagine all sorts of mishaps when applying the caviar pearls but it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

You start off by painting all of your nails with one coat of polish and allow that to dry. Then you apply a second coat and, whilst it's still wet, pour over the caviar pearls and carefully press them down into the polish to make them stick. After my nails were fully dry, I finished off by applying a top coat at the bottom edge of the nail to make the beads more secure. If a top coat is applied over the whole of the nail it can remove the colour of the beads.

The result was really pretty and though I love pastel colours I just didn't think it suited me. I think it's because I'm so used to wearing quite safe and muted colours. I'm also really picky with nail polish - if there's the slightest chip, bubble or streakiness I often end up taking the whole thing off and starting again. Initially the beads seemed to stay on my nails quite well, but after washing my hands several times some of the beads fell off which just made me want to remove it.

It was definitely cool to try this and if I find out a way to make this last longer I would definitely try it again, but maybe with a darker colour.

NOTD | nails inc. polish by InStyle Magazine

InStyle magazine (UK) has teamed up with nails inc. again and created the Brazilian collection for the June issue. A free nail polish stated to be worth £11 comes with each copy this month. There are 3 colours to choose from - Copacabana Coral, Sugarloaf Sunset and Sao Paulo Streets.

I bought the June issue for £2.50 - a deal exclusive to Tesco, and I went for Sao Paulo Streets which is a gorgeous dusty violet. I've only just got around to using it since getting the magazine a couple of weeks ago. The colour is very similar to essie in Neo Whimsical but ever so slightly more on the purple side. I probably should have gone for the other two colours in the Brazilian collection (pink and coral) as I don't own anything similar, but I can never quite seem to push myself out of my comfort zone.

I don't have many nails inc. polishes, and admittedly most of the ones I own have come free with a copy of InStyle, but I'm always impressed at the finish which is super glossy. The magazine also came with a 25% off code at until 4 June 2014 which I'll be taking advantage of - I've got my eye on the floral polishes!

NOTD | Models Own Speckled Eggs Nail Polish

I've definitely been indulging in doing my nails a lot more recently. I just love nail art but I'm pretty lazy about actually painting my talons. By the time I'm done filing, buffing and applying a base coat, I just want the polish to be on and dry as quick as possible.

I often end up with 'bed print' nails as I can't sit still long enough to allow each coat to dry fully. For this reason I absolutely love this speckled nail polish inspired by bird egg shells by Models Own (£5). I bought the shade Swan Lilac but there's also Dove Pink, Goose Yellow, Duck Blue and Magpie Green - all great shades for Spring/Summer.

I ended up applying this polish just after I bought it on the bus home (I don't usually do this, but I thought that way I'd sit still long enough). The buses in Manchester are always a bumpy ride but despite some messy application the finish is perfect and it was also opaque after only two coats. Another bonus is I've had it on for two days and so far no chipping, even without a top coat.

The finish was so effortless and quick I'd definitely purchase some of the other shades from the Speckled Eggs collection. I got mine from but this polish is also available from the website.

NOTD | Barry M Nail Paint Mushroom

I've been on the hunt lately for the perfect brown nude shade and I may have finally found it.

The polish is Nail Paint in Mushroom (310). I think half of my talon stash is Barry M as I love their selection of different colours and effects for a very reasonable price. I bought 'Mushroom' the other day which is like a rich taupe. I love love love muted tones and this seems to go with most of my outfits given that my wardrobe is lacking much colour currently.

NOTD | Maybelline Color Show Mauve Kiss

This is just a quick post on my current nail of the day (NOTD). I'm wearing Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in 150 Mauve Kiss (£2.99). It's a a very muted purple and not usually something I'd wear but I absolutely love this colour. Originally I was looking for something more brown based for a nude nail colour but this caught my eye whilst browsing Boots the other day. I also bought 381 Love this Sweater which is a very similar shade but more on the pink side.

I haven't bought much from Maybelline since my teens and I know it's a hugely popular drugstore brand but I have no idea how good their makeup is currently. The prices of the nail lacquers are very affordable and it only took two coats to get a perfect coverage. So far there's been no chipping either and I didn't bother with a base or top coat like I normally do when applying this polish. I'll definitely be picking up a few more shades of this polish in the soon.
