Style | Forever 21 Blazer & Missguided Playsuit

It's rare that I actually spend time exploring Manchester, which is a shame as I don't live too far from the centre. Recently a really good friend of mine left Manchester to return to her home in Australia. In her short 2 years staying in Manchester she has seen far more than I have my twenty-something years of living here. There's so much to do and I want to make more time to see Manchester. In that same vein, me and my other half did the tourist-y thing and visited , an 87-storey skyscraper in Southwark recently. The views are gorgeous and it was good to gaze at the sights I don't see enough of.

I didn't plan to make a blog post out of my visit, so this is an impromptu outfit post. I've been wearing this Forever 21 Boyfriend Blazer a lot recently as it's so comfy and the playsuit is a Missguided favourite I haven't worn since November. It's a little short on me, but I love the floral detail and white collar so I'm going to make a point of wearing it a lot more this summer.

New In | Black & Gold Accessories

This season I've loved having an excuse to wear a lot of black. In fact the other day I was dressed exclusively head-to-toe in black. Bright colour has never really been my 'thing' and though it may seem a little drab to draped in such sombre tones, I usually look for items with some kind of detailing, trim or texture to make it more visually exciting. My wardrobe is brimming with black and gold accessories as a result, so maybe it's not surprising then that the newest additions to my collection have been following the same colour combo.

Shoes - | Bag - | Necklaces - | Purse -

The Topshop arm candy (£40) was a present from my boyfriend at Christmas. After favouring a giant H&M grey handbag for the past few months (seen ), it's been nice to downsize and not carry every item known to man around in my bag everyday. This version with the gold detailing is currently sold out online, but they have a very similar rose gold version still available. I bought the River Island Purse (£17) separately, but oddly the texture surrounding the back of the purse matches my bag perfectly. I'm not usually a fan of snake skin, but the contrasting textures and the chevron pattern on the front is a nice touch.

I've not been wearing flat shoes a lot lately instead opting for chunky platform or heeled boots, but it's been good to give my feet a break now and again. These double strap 'almond toe' shoes (£10) from Primark are a cute basic, comfy (now I've broken them in) and easy to slip on to complete a relaxed outfit.

Every aspect of my style is simplistic and minimal, including jewellery. I have a penchant for dainty necklaces and these two gold pieces (roughly £3 each) are from Forever 21. The store has an overwhelming array of glittering chains, bracelets and earrings so it's hard for me to ever stick to just a few purchases when frequenting the accessory department (which is why shamefully my trinket boxes are filled with fashion jewellery).

What kind of accessories do you like?

What I Wore | Missguided Skort

I recently bought a sewing machine to make a few minor alterations to some clothes gathering dust in my wardrobe including this emerald green skort from .

I've always felt a little luke warm about the skort (shorts that look like a skirt at the front) but took the plunge and I bought this one almost a year ago. The problem was this skort was way too big around my waist but I figured I could make it work anyway. I was so wrong. The skort sat perfectly on my hips but something just looked off. As a result this skort got lost with all the other clothes that could do with a little needlework.

I'm pretty rusty with a sewing machine (it's been 10 years since I last used one) but I managed to nip this beauty in at the waist, giving my skort a new lease of life. I'm a lot more excited to wear my skort now and it'll be interesting to mix it up with my autumn/winter pieces.

Today I wore my skort with a thick knit and loose white shirt for a casual look. I kept my accessories minimal (as usual) opting for a tan belt and a new Olivia Burton watch.

Black Shoe Haul | Autumn 2014

Black shoes account for about 95% of my footwear and yet I can never seem to have quite enough of them. I've been using the autumn season as an excuse to add some new shoes to my collection and I'm sure these 3 pairs will get the most wear over the coming months.

For the days it's not thundering with rain and not cold enough to freeze my toes I'll be relying on these flats. I don't usually like pointy shoes as my feet are pretty wide but these look quite cute on and were the bargain price of £4 in the Primark sale.

I have so many pairs of brogues in random colours but strangely I haven't owned any in black until now. I'm a big fan of keeping it simple so the clean, classic design suits me to a tee. These brogues work perfectly with my tailored trousers and checked dresses which I'll be wearing this season.

I find it really hard to not buy several of what I have already which has led me to have so many variants of the Chelsea Boot. I couldn't resist another pair and surely one more pair of Chelsea Boots can't hurt? I love the cut out detail and the gold buckle on these which are a cool twist on the classic design.

What I Wore | ASOS Black Floral Shorts

This is another outfit from my trip to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago (previous ). The temperature has dropped recently and sadly I've already gone back to wearing jeans and jumper combos!

I always say my style is minimalist but having barely any room in my cabin bag to fit many clothes meant I really had to strip down to the bare essentials when I went away. All of the outfits I took to Scotland had to be easy to wear and this Forever 21 blouse goes with virtually everything. I ended up pairing it with these ASOS floral shorts which are an old purchase. The shorts are part of a cute  (now in the ASOS sale section) and I wish I snapped up the top too when I had the chance but my wardrobe contains so much black, white and grey I knew these shorts would work with most of what I had already. If the temperature doesn't drop too much more I'm definitely going to have a break from living in my jeans and try mixing up these shorts with some other pieces in my wardrobe.

Summer Wardrobe | Strappy Sandals

Lately I've been loving wearing heeled strappy sandals. I don't wear heels often unless they're cleverly concealed platform boots as me and heels are usually a disaster. FYI I tend to look like Bambi trying to walk around in roller skates, but I'm hoping by wearing these more often I'll eventually look slightly more elegant in heels.

I got the two black pairs from and the pink pair from . I can't remember the exact prices but all of them were under £20, so a total bargain for me. I love how these shoes instantly transform my outfits, making it look like I've put in more effort. I'd love to add a white pair to the small collection above to finish off a few outfits which don't quite work with black or pink shoes.

Summer Wardrobe | Round Sunglasses

I often take a 'less is more' approach to styling, especially with accessories, and this has led me to use the same oversized aviators every summer for the past couple of years. In general I'm trying to be slightly more daring with my style, which is pretty simplistic, but I've started small by changing up my accessories.

One of my friends from work has the coolest round sunglasses which he got from Urban Outfitters last year and ever since I spied them on him I've had a little obsession with finding the perfect pair for me. There's so many gorgeous retro-inspired shades on the high-street at the moment I've found it hard to resist purchasing a few. These 3 here are only a small selection of the round sunnies I've been hoarding this summer.

Primark | Topshop | ASOS (from top to bottom)

It's hard for me to blog about my personal style and not include an item from Primark. Everything in Primark is super cheap and, it's a bad habit but, this leads me to buy a lot. Their sunglasses range from £1-£3 and these (£3) are just one of many I've got from Primark this year. This is the only pair I have in tortoise shell and I love the oversized look. I'm wearing this Primark pair in my last OOTD.

The (£12) are currently my favourite sunnies and surprisingly I can pair them easily with a lot of my outfits. To me they're 'teashades' or 'John Lennon glasses' but with a more modern finish. I've often avoided these types of round glasses in the past as I thought they'd look awkward on my face, but these are the perfect size.

The  (£15) are also a flattering size but the wire-look frame give these a more 60s-inspired finish than the Topshop sunnies. These shades work perfectly with summer festival staples - floaty dresses (like this one), patterned pieces, loose tees and clothes with fringe detailing.

It's ironic that I post this as it's been pouring with rain in Manchester today but I have been relying on my sunnies quite a lot lately!

What I Wore | Forever 21 Dress

I packed last minute for a weekend at my boyfriends and all I remembered to grab to wear the next day was this dress and sunglasses.

I've really missed wearing summer dresses as I've been living in high-waisted jeans and t-shirts lately (totally obsessed with my Topshop Joni pair). I’d like to wear dresses more but I barely have any, probably because I’m really fussy when it comes to buying them. Annoyingly a lot of dresses from my favourite high-street stores seem to come up quite short on me. I'm only 5'6" but I must have disproportionately long legs! I really love the pattern and halter neck on this Forever 21 dress, and though I would prefer it was a teensy bit longer I decided to buy it anyway.

It was such a lovely weekend this dress was perfect for exploring the gardens of an Estate in Essex. I was wearing it with a slouchy cream blazer but I really didn't need it with the heat so took it off instantly.

I'm definitely going to add a few more summer dresses to my wardrobe soon!

What I Wore | H&M Zig Zag Cami

I've finally been rearranging my wardrobe, moving out the autumn/winter items and gradually building up a collection of my summer essentials. It was nice to clear the space which was previously filled with fluffy jumpers, thick coats and knitted scarves, though I must admit I'll miss the layering that comes with the colder weather.

The UK gets pretty muggy in the summer, which is why Brits tend to strip off at the first sight of sun. It's been so warm lately and, like most, camis are my go-to item when the heat is on. I really love this black and white zig zag cami from H&M. I'm prone to buying very plain items but I'm slowly starting to experiment with more patterns, so this shirt is a welcome change. I kept my outfit simple here (I guess that's just my thing) and I'm also unintentionally wearing almost exclusively H&M clothing. H&M is so affordable I've been getting a bit too carried away with my purchases lately and as a result lot of my summery clothing is from here.

Outfit Snippets | Primark Pink Trousers

T-Shirt & Necklace - | Trousers - | Shoes - | Watch -

When it comes to clothes my style is pretty simple and I never really wear anything bold. The clothes that have been seeing the most wear lately have been grey and muted shades too. I thought it was about time I starting breaking out the pastels seeing as it's finally Spring and I love pastel colours! I hardly ever wear pink but these trousers were such a steal from Primark I had to buy them.

I'll admit that finding what to wear with these trousers was a little tricky as my style is so understated. I ended up pairing the pastel trousers with a textured white tee and some beige leather brogues which I bought the other day.

Do you like wearing pastels?
