What's in my makeup bag? | August 2014

From top left clockwise - Ben Nye Luxury Powder | Real Techniques Powder Brush | Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner | MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation | Sleek Makeup Face Form | Sleek Makeup Brow Kit | Travel Atomiser | MAC Viva Glam Lipstick | Real Techniues Mini Trio | Le Volume De Chanel | Travel Makeup Tin | Rimmel Manchester Brow This Way

I've been meaning to do one of these posts for some time as I always get asked what products my daily makeup routine includes. I rarely change what I use unless it's lipstick or blusher so these products are some of my favourites. I often use easy and convenient products that are small enough to carry around in my makeup bag day after day.

Powder - (£7.50)
I've been using this powder for a long time and originally reviewed this product . I love this powder for setting my foundation and colour works perfectly for my skintone. Carrying around the whole bottle can lead to powder getting everywhere so I usually depot a small amount of this product into an empty pot with a sifter.

Brushes -  (£9.99) & (£9.99)
I've become quite a hoarder when it comes to Real Techniques Brushes, so much so that I can't fit most of my favourites into my everyday makeup bag. I picked up the Mini Brush Trio a couple of weeks ago so I could fit more brushes into my makeup bag. It includes a mini foundation brush, shader brush for eyeshadow and a blush brush. I also have a Real Techniques Powder Brush to set my face with powder.

Liner -  (£12)
This liner is essentially a felt tip pen and I love it. I don't reach for this often but I have it in my makeup bag as it makes flirty flicks fast and easy.

Foundation -  (£25)
I've been wearing this foundation almost solidly since I first discovered MAC in 2009. In terms of finish nothing beats this foundation for me as it looks so natural with maximum coverage. The only downside is that this foundation doesn't last on my oily combination skin as long as other MAC foundations like the Studio Fix Fluid and . As with my powder, I depot my foundation so I don't have to carry around the whole tube on a daily basis. I use an empty 10ml travel tin (pictured) which I got from eBay allowing me to free up space in my makeup bag.

FOTD | The Bright Lip

I haven't done a makeup look in a long time and that's because I rarely change my makeup routine. I usually apply a different lipstick and that's about it. Most of the lipsticks I own are pretty safe tones ranging from pink to brown but I do have a few which push me out of my comfort zone, like the lipstick I'm wearing here. I bought this Barry M Lip Paint (151) quite some time ago but I've barely worn it probably as I've never felt like I could pull this look off.

That said, this lipstick is the perfect stand-out lip for summer but as it is so bright I kept the rest of my makeup very simple here. I applied a small amount of foundation to my skin and used a little NC42 concealer from MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette in Medium Deep for dark spots on my face. I then used the burnt coral shade from the MAC palette on the apples of my cheeks. I followed my usual routine for my brows and set them in place with a little Gimme Brow. I kept makeup on my eyes minimal, opting for just a little Thick & Fast mascara. I wanted a slight glow so highlighted my face with the brightest shade from Sleek Makeup Glo. I finished off by dusting some Ben Nye Banana Powder on my T-zone.

1 Sleek Makeup Glo in Bronze Baby | 2 Ben Nye Banana Powder | 3 Sleek Makeup Brow Kit in Dark | 4 MAC Pro Conceal Palette in Medium Deep | 5 MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42 | 6 Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium Deep | 7 Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara | 8 Barry M Lip Paint in 151

What makeup looks have you done recently?

Review | Sleek Makeup Glo Face & Body Highlighter

I love contouring my face, though I rarely have time to, and the Sleek Makeup Glo Face & Body Highlighter in Bronze Baby (£6.49) is the latest addition to my contour routine.

I've tried other highlighting products by Sleek Makeup and regularly use the Face Form but so far I'm really impressed with this product. You can use the strips of colour alone or swirl them together. The product is intended to be multi-use. You can use the different shades as highlighters, bronzers or even as eyeshadow. I've preferred using the product as a highlighter and apply them mixed together on my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, my eyebrow bone and on my cupids bow with my Real Techniques Setting Brush. Occasionally I use the bottom strip of colour as a bronzer. Using this product really provides the finishing touch to my makeup, I only wish I had the time to use it more often!

As you can see from the swatches, the pigmentation of the shades in Bronze Baby is good and the shades are very shimmery. Bronze Baby is perfect for medium tone skin. The product comes in 2 other variations, Peach Shimmer and Gold Digga. The former is more suited to lighter skintones, whereas the latter compliments darker tones.

The product is fairly long-lasting and easy to blend into the skin, so overall a great product for the relatively low price.

I got the Glo Face & Body Highlighter from instore, but it's also available from .
Do you use a highlighter?
